After 20 years away from the camera I started photo school in the fall of 2023. I am Naomi Jacobs, an aspiring photographer based in Nova Scotia, who’s discovered that the world can change when you look through a lens.
I love art, reading, music, and history, all things that influence how I see the world. I was surprised when I found out that the camera, a mechanical tool, can do the same thing. I love picking up the camera knowing whatever moment I capture it’s going to reveal something I’ve never seen before, or something that I didn’t know was there. Sometimes it even brings something back to me I thought I had lost. With each image I capture, the way I look at the world is changing.
My love of history led me to discover my great-great grandfather was a photographer in the late 1800s. Working under his name, Lombardi Photography, illuminates my path everyday that I work as a photographer.
Whether it’s in the studio capturing people the way my great-great grandfather did, out on the streets being in the moment surrounded by life, or in the stillness reading and responding to the healing presence of horses, the camera has become how I communicate what I see and how I feel.
